Michael Davis co-founded Appriss and brings 25 years of entrepreneurial experience to his role.
Mike has led Appriss from its startup days as the pioneer in utilizing technology to keep victims of crime safe and informed. He has consistently looked for ways in which technology can do good in society and has spearheaded a team focused on leveraging data and analytics to accomplish just that.
Mike is a two-time winner of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Paul H. Chapman award by the Foundation for Improvement of Justice. In 2009, he was awarded the US Congressional Crime Victims Award in recognition of his work on behalf of crime victims throughout the country.
In 2000, Mike helped launch the Mary Byron Foundation in honor of the young woman whose tragic murder inspired the creation of Appriss. This charitable organization focuses on ending the cycle of domestic violence. He continues to serve as an active board member of the Mary Byron Foundation and also serves as an advisor to several other entrepreneurial and charitable organizations.
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, Jeff partners with the executive team and investors to bring a strategic perspective and financial and operational discipline to the team.
Jeff Byal is a strategic financial leader with experience in working with teams from early concept-stage companies to executive leadership at both private and billion dollar public, multi-national organizations. He has a track record in, and passion for middle market growth organizations.
Over the past 20 years, Jeff has served both private and public companies leading finance, treasury, accounting, tax, human resources and legal in the technology, retail, and consumer finance markets. He’s raised more than $1.8 billion of debt and equity financing and led & managed $500 million in M&A transactions. Jeff also gained valuable experience leading sales, organizational and strategy transformation at two companies while serving as Interim CEO.
Jeff originally joined Appriss in 1996 as the 7th employee and remained for over 5 years. He rejoined in the summer of 2016 to a Company that had grown considerably and now has a diverse and international footprint.
Jeff attended Iowa State University where he received his BBA in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Chief Information Officer
Brian Oldham joined Appriss in 2000 and currently serves as Chief Information Officer. Brian is responsible for setting the technology vision for Appriss and enterprise-class scalability for the services delivered to customers. He leads the Enterprise IT and Security organizations. Brian has more than 25 years of experience in leading technology organizations at large and high growth companies.
Prior to being CIO, Brian was responsible for product engineering and technical operations for Appriss, leading the engineering efforts for all products. Brian has led initiatives such as Agile Development, DevOps, and AWS migration. Prior to Appriss, Brian held technology leadership positions at GE and Providian/Aegon Insurance.
Brian is a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for the University of Louisville’s J.B. Speed School of Engineering, Computer Science department. Brian received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and is IT Service Management Foundations certified and Six Sigma trained.
President – Appriss Health
Mr. Cohen brings over 13 years of healthcare experience to Appriss Health with a career spanning leadership positions at McKinsey and Company, Anthem, and Healthways.
In his most recent role, he served as the Market President of Tennessee for Evolent Health, a leading health IT and population health provider, where he was responsible for the operations, growth, and profitability of regional relationships.
Mr. Cohen holds a BBA, summa cum laude, from the University of Texas at Austin, a master of computer and information technology from the Moore School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA with honors from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
President – Appriss Retail
Krishnan serves as the president of Appriss Retail and is responsible for all aspects of The Retail Equation/Sysrepublic’s operations.
Krish joined Appriss in 2013 as EVP of Products and has spearheaded several key initiatives. He formed Appriss Health and led the team from an early stage startup to a market leader. He drove the growth of MobilePatrol into a community-based public safety mobile app with a multi-million user community. He is currently working on the next set of opportunities to leverage Appriss’ data and analytics capabilities.
Prior to Appriss, Krish spent 10 years in senior P&L and product roles at Privia Health and SHPS Inc., both pioneers in the healthcare industry. He led the development of a cloud-based population health and healthcare benefits administration platform to drive consumer-driven health strategies for SHPS that was used to manage the health and wellbeing of several million beneficiaries.
His prior work includes the development of a platforms for mobile computing, and enterprise information at BEA Systems. Prior to that, he led the development of the first Portal-as-a-Service platform at Abilizer Solutions (acquired by BEA). Previously he was with BCG, and held multiple engineering roles at Unisys Corporation.
Krish has an M.B.A. with honors from The Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelors in Engineering (Hons.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani, India.
President – Appriss Safety
Josh Bruner, President of Appriss’ Government division, joined Appriss in 2002. Prior to assuming the role of President in January 2016, Josh served in many facets of the business, including Technical Services, Product Management, Account Services, Professional Services, Sales and Business Development.
In his previous role as Appriss’ Executive Vice President of Operations, Josh led implementation, support and call center activities for all of Appriss’ products and services. Josh holds a BA from Bellarmine University
Senior vice president and General Counsel
David manages the legal affairs for all Appriss businesses, both in the United States and internationally. David joined Appriss in 2017, bringing more than 15 years of general counsel experience and nearly 25 years of overall legal experience advising companies and helping them to successfully navigate the legal landscape. Prior to Appriss, David had a general counsel role with multiple business units of Experian and, before that, served as general counsel for a publicly-traded printing company, ultimately acquired by R.R. Donnelley. David began his legal career as a general litigator with a mid-size law firm in Chicago.
David was admitted to the Wisconsin and Illinois bars in 1993. He received a B.A., cum laude, in Political Science and Psychology from Duke University in 1989 and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1993, where he was an editor of the Wisconsin Law Review.
David resides with his three daughters in the Chicago area and serves on the board of directors for Erasing the Distance, a highly acclaimed non-profit dedicated to shedding light on and destigmatizing mental health issues through professional theatre.
CHIEF DATA SCIENTIST
Dr. David Speights is the Chief Data Scientist at Appriss and leads the data sciences team, which is responsible for applying advanced analytical techniques, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning throughout the enterprise. David has more than 20 years of experience developing and deploying analytical solutions for more than 100 organizations in multiple industries. The Appriss data sciences team led by Speights has members which hold eight PhDs and seven master’s degrees in several analytical disciplines.
Prior to Dr. Speights’ role at Appriss, he was Chief Data Scientist for The Retail Equation and Sysrepublic, which were acquired by Appriss in 2015 and 2016 forming Appriss Retail, the retail division of Appriss. In his role at The Retail Equation, Speights was responsible for the analytics and data management functions from startup to 2015. Before joining The Retail Equation, Speights was First Vice President of Mortgage Credit Risk Modeling at Washington Mutual and Chief Statistician at HNC Software where he led teams of modeling professionals applying real-time and other analytical methods to solve business problems in finance and insurance.
He has additional professional experience in fundraising analytics, marketing/advertising analytics, pharmaceutical/clinical trial analysis, and epidemiological studies. Speights holds a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, holds several patents, and is lead author on the first book written for analytics applied to retail loss prevention, “Essentials of Modeling and Analytics: Retail Risk Management and Asset Protection”.
VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES
As Vice President of Human Resources for Appriss, Alden oversees all people operations, including recruiting, organizational development, workforce analytics and total rewards. He is an experienced human capital executive with a proven track record in creating organizational transformation by aligning people strategies with business objectives.
Alden was previously the Vice President of Human Resources with KentuckyOne Health, among the largest healthcare systems in the state. In this role, he led the technical HR service functions, focusing on HRIS Operations and Total Rewards. In addition, he led the talent acquisition functions, driving high volume recruitment and employer branding strategies.
Prior to his time in healthcare, Alden held a variety of senior level HR positions within the healthcare, manufacturing and distribution industries. In each of these roles, he served as a change agent for high growth companies and led efforts in M &A, leadership development and organizational restructuring.
Alden is a graduate of the Gatton School of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky, and received his MBA, summa cum laude, from Sullivan University. In addition, Alden is six sigma certified and has earned the SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) designation.
